SwGTs technical training
2012-Mar-24
Swedish Golf Team is supporting players and coaches with technical measurements, analysis and training recommendations. We use biomechanical equipment when needed. The action plan is done together with the players home coaches, based on objective data.
This Saturday, the girls team with coach Lisa Westman arranged for a technical follow up for promising players and their coaches. Fredrik Wetterstrand did putting analysis with SAM putt lab, and technical recommendations.
On the full swing, I used high speed cameras, TrackMan, and 3D to collect data and to practice with instant feedback. It is nice to see how the players are improving and how quickly most can get results when getting accurate and instant feedback.

Discussing the effect of a changed impact with Emma Nilsson, her coach David Green and Fredrik Wetterstrand.

WSCG VI is over
2012-Mar-19
World Scientific Congress of Golf is just over. Experts from 16 countries participated in Phoenix, Arizona. I had two presentations; One about the top US PGA Tour players short game skill differences from fairway, rough and sand. The other was about optimisation in training. I had a great week discussing golf research with some of the smartest people in the business. See more at www.golfscience.org.

Dr. Vickers opened the conference and reviewed the research about Quiet Eye

Dr. Christina talked about Core Movement Patterns

Dr. Kwon presented new biomechanical theories about the golf swing

Networking with Dr. Neal, Hardesty, Dr. MacKenzie and Dr. Broadie (left to right behind me)

TrackMan software update
2012-Mar-08
Some of the TPS 2.1 updates and new functionalities are listed below. I am specially interested in the ability to study the point of impact. That is really needed in order to understand the values that represents the orientation of the clubface.

Improved target selection and external camera calibration
The target selection screen has been simplified and now shows a clearer image with live, streaming video to make target selection easier. Calibration of external cameras now uses a live, streaming video feed as well. Video settings and calibration of camera functions have been moved under the camera icon shown in the top, middle of the TPS software.
Webcam support
The quality of USB webcams has improved recently. Cameras such as Microsoft’s LifeCam Studio (www.microsoft.com/hardware/en-us/webcamst) offer very good picture quality both indoors and outdoors at an affordable price.
NOTE: USB webcams consume 50% of the USB bandwidth. If you want to record from multiple webcams simultaneously (the internal TrackMan camera counts as a webcam) you need to add an extra USB hub to your computer by a PC/Express card or similar (approximately 25 USD).
Short Game application (TrackMan III only)
A new Short Game mode is available for TrackMan III owners. The new hardware allows for the measurement of shots down to 2 m/yds. The Short Game application works both indoors and outdoors and includes all ball flight parameters (excluding spin axis). To measure the spin rate indoors the ball should be marked.
Ball Position overlay graphic
A new ‘Ball Position’ graphic has been added to the options available under 3D in the video window. This new graphic is available on down-the-line camera angles taken from the internal TrackMan camera and/or external cameras connected to your computer. The ‘Ball Position’ graphic helps determine visually where impact was made on the club face.
Geo-tagged data (only TrackMan III)
Using the built-in GPS in the TrackMan III radars, every shot hit on TrackMan is now tagged with latitude, longitude, and altitude information. If you have an active internet connection, clicking the hyperlink in the ‘Shot List’ takes you directly to GoogleMaps™ showing a real image of where the shots were hit.
